But those design flaws make this unit too inefficient and not worth it.

The only good thing was that the bacon cooked more quickly than in the oven or stovetop in a pan. Fourth, I wasn't aware that the pans DO NOT LIFT OUT! So the entire unit needs to be cleaned each time and I very much dislike when pans can't lift out for thorough cleaning. I was only able to fry 4 pieces of bacon at a time. Thirdly, the size of the frying surface is soooo small. SO INEFFECIENT! Next, the top grill seemed to heat unevently b/c I needed to flip the bacon - something that should not be necessary with the top grill-lid, as Bob Warden demonstrated on TV. So that makes it impossible to cook a 2nd batch of bacon (or anything really) without turning off the unit, unplugging it, caaaaaarefully removing the filled drip tray to pour it out, replacing it, and starting again. First, I lifted the lid to check on the bacon, and the drippings dripped all over the counter from the back lid.!!! Nothing to catch the lid drips!! Yes there is a "grease catcher" but it only sits in the center of the unit!! and it's soooo small for catching grease or drippings. I couldn't believe the poor design flaws as I was cooking the bacon.

I just received this grill and used it for the first time this morning for bacon (using the bacon instructions in the booklet). If you have to put oil on your food to cook it and to keep the grill a little less difficult to clean how healthy is that? A TOTAL waste of money and more so, my time. I bought it for fast cooking and fast clean up and healthy eating. Makers of infrared grills are always talking about temperatures over 700 degrees to get a good sear. Some will say that you need something like a blast furnace to get a great sear. It will probably get packed away or thrown out I don't have the time to spend cleaning this grill every time I use it. Searing is a process of cooking that creates the crusty surface texture most people find appealing and the caramelized sugars that give us that steak flavor we want. And the grease seems to sit and not drain properly.
#Searing grill full
As I mentioned the clean up time, well, I could clean my whole kitchen from cooking a full meal for dinner faster than I can clean this grill. Grilling is a process whereby you expose food to lower temperatures for longer. I have found you have to brush OIL ON your food to help it from sticking so badly. Allowing you the ability to both sear and grill food at the same time. I have to say this is the worse purchase I have ever made from the Q! The cord is way to short for starters. I was going to send it back but my husband liked it of course, he didn't have to clean it! It stayed and I totally regret it. The second time, well, everything stuck to it and it took me over an hour to clean! And I found that after cleaning for an hour, I still couldn't get it totally clean. I have never written a 1 (one) star rating for any product! However, I guess there is always a first time for everything! The first time I used this grill, it was fine. Now I am usually a charcoal man and you can definitely cook a steak like this on a charcoal grill but since gas grills are so prevalent and most people find them more convenient than charcoal here is how you reverse sear a steak on a gas grill.
